Planting deciduous vines near a porch is a great way of working with the natural cycles of plants. On hot summer afternoons the vine provides shade and as the cool weather arrives the same vine looses its leaves allowing for sun beams. Here we’ve planted our California native grape, Vitis californica ‘Roger’s Red‘ to train up the face of a porch. The vine also serves as a charming backdrop for a California native plant border. Using plants to cool and heat your outside and inside living rooms is a great idea, energy-efficient and sustainably beautiful!
